——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-10/01/2013 – ZAP Share & Exchange exhibition I had this drawing in the ZAP share and exchange exhibition in South London. Each piece shown was exchanged via a lottery so we all went home with a new piece of work. I managed to bag the youngest artist’s work there – Ryan’s. It was a great chance to meet lots of the twitter folk in real life. Thanks to Rosalind and Annabel from ZAP.

24/07/2012 – NEW SITTERS – Finally, I have pinned down 2 ladies to pose for me over the next few days! Very excited to get started on some new paintings. I only wish Susanna (from Susanna and the elders by Artemisia Gentileschi) had been canonised (one single website in the world implies she was but I don’t think I can trust it) as she deserved to be. So I must decide on a different pose before Saturday….decisions, decisions.

I’ll be showing 2 miniature paintings at the Stone Space Gallery, 6 Church lane, Leytonstone, London E11. The group exhibition is called Wandering Rocks and was selected and curated by Stephen Snoddy, Director of the New Art Gallery, Walsall. Private view from 7pm and the show is open until 19th August.

26/6/2012 – ALAS RESIDENCY BLOG & ARCHIVE – We now have a blog about the ALAS residency that links to all the artist’s sites and has more information about our exhibition, Matt Roberts Arts, with pictures and press.

Our exhibition is opening late this First Thursday 5th July 6.30-9pm in addition to the usual gallery hours.

15/06/2012 – ALAS RESIDENCY – I’m currently on a residency at Matt Roberts Arts in London, with 18 other international artists working towards a large group show opening on the 28th June. It’s pretty intense and we’re all working hard to create opportunities now and in the future. I’m really impressed with the calibre of their work in the studio (and their company down the pub) Already feeling like I will really miss them when it ends.

Have a butcher’s at some of their art here;

Moorland Productions, Catrine Bodum, David Chalkley, Laurie Nouchka, Hannah Futers,
Caro Halford, Hana Melly, Karolina Magnusson Murray,
Susie Mendelsson, Julia Miranda, Araba Ocran, Jane Oldfield, Paul Stanley
Susanna Thornton, Jemma Watts, Sarah West & Ventiko

01/06/2012 – GOOD COP BAD COP – Currently, one of my paintings is my best friend and can do no wrong…the other hates me and is waterboarding me big time (with turps)

01/05/2012 – THE FLOOR – Oh what have I let myself in for with this floor, avenge my demise…

17/04/2012 – GOLD LEAF – Looked up ‘burnishing gold leaf’ on Wiki = “Scratch all the gold leaf by accident, panic slightly before continuing to scratch the gold leaf off in a more gentle fashion, swear, then scratch the rest of the gold leaf off in a brisk/angry manner – leaving behind a completely unusable, chovelled, small oak board. (Be sure to apply the leaf straight onto 18 layers of perfect, beautiful gesso that took 9 days to prepare and sand to ensure a heavy heart)”

Yep, my foray into gilding’s going really well…

09/04/2012 – SOURCE MATERIAL – My new sitter came around to lend me his image yesterday, complete with a quart of Jack Daniels, I was right he was a bit nervous. Lunch and a chat made us both feel less anxious and we got down the task in hand – namely him prancing around in his pants in my kitchen. Got some great shots and sketches and learnt a bit about new music too in the aftermath. Turns out his confirmation name was Sebastian and the best poses happened to be based on a painting of Saint Sebastian by Luini Bernardino. Really looking forward to finishing the millionth coat of gesso and getting started.

07/04/2012SOURCE MATERIAL – I’m planning a trip to the National Gallery Tomorrow to choose the pose for my next miniature painting. The first sitting/sketches and photographs will be taken, for source material, this Monday, I think my sitter’s quite nervous, may need to loosen him up with a complimentary baileys….

‘Ms Lomax’ – Oil on oak board – 4″ x 6″  2012
